Pricing
Free for the operator. 5% on online bookings.
No monthly fee. No setup fee. No hosting charge. No contract. Gear is free for rental operators — we’re paid by a flat 5% platform fee on online rental bookings, deducted at payment time before the rest lands in your bank. That’s the whole pricing page.
Software cost
$0/mo
No monthly fee, no setup fee, no per-user seat fee, no hosting charge. Ever.
Online booking fee
5%
Deducted from each online rental at payment time. Phone bookings & walk-ups are free.
Payment processing
Pass-through
Stripe Connect (recommended) or Square. You pay the same card fees you’d pay anywhere else — we don’t upcharge.
One plan. Everything included.
No feature gates. No paid add-ons.
Every operator on Geargets the whole platform from day one. One-truck weekend operators and multi-location event rental companies both run on the same stack — the only thing that scales is the volume of online bookings you take.
The honest exception
Stripe processing: passed through at cost
Credit-card processing fees (typically 2.9% + $0.30 in the US) are charged by Stripe directly — we don’t upcharge them. The 5% platform fee is on top of (not in addition to) the same Stripe fees you’d pay anywhere else. Square is supported as an alternative if you’re already running it in-store.
Why this pricing works
Aligned incentives, not a sales quota.
The operator pays nothing
No monthly subscription. No per-user seat licence. No hosting charge. No setup or training invoice. Sign up, add your inventory, and open your storefront the same day.
The fee comes out of the booking
A flat 5% platform fee is deducted from each online rental at payment time — so you never see a monthly invoice from us. Phone bookings, walk-ups, and rentals you record manually carry no platform fee.
95% of every online booking is yours
Stripe Connect routes the rest of the payment straight to your bank like any other Stripe payout. We never custody your money, and we don’t upcharge card processing on top of the platform fee.
Frequently asked
The honest answers.
- Is Gear really free for rental owners?
- Yes. There’s no monthly fee, no setup fee, no per-seat licence, no hosting charge, and no training invoice. Inventory tracking, online booking, delivery routing, digital waivers, payments, customer CRM, and reporting are all included from day one.
- How does Gear make money, then?
- A flat 5% transaction fee is applied to online rental reservations processed through the platform. We only get paid when you collect a paid booking online — phone bookings, walk-ins, and offline rentals you record manually are free.
- Who collects the rental revenue?
- You do. Every rental, deposit, and balance payment goes straight into the Stripe Connect account you connect to your tenant. Gear never custodies your funds — the 5% platform fee is deducted at the point of charge and the rest lands in your bank like any other Stripe payout.
- Can I use Gear with Square instead of Stripe?
- Stripe Connect is the primary processor we recommend; Square is supported as a secondary option for tenants already running Square hardware in-store. New accounts default to Stripe because the Connect onboarding and payout reporting are cleaner.
- Is the platform multi-tenant? Can I run more than one location?
- Yes. Each business runs as its own tenant with isolated inventory, customers, staff, and reporting. If you operate multiple physical locations under the same business, those are managed as locations within a single tenant — with per-location delivery zones, vehicles, and staff schedules.
- Can I use my own domain instead of a Gear subdomain?
- Yes. Every tenant gets a free `{slug}.ioxgear.com` subdomain out of the box, and you can connect your own custom domain (e.g. `book.yourrental.com`) at any time. SSL is handled automatically and the customer-facing booking flow runs at your branding.
- Are deposits and balance payments handled automatically?
- Yes. You can configure deposits at booking and the balance due before delivery on a per-tenant basis. Customers receive automated emails when each payment is due, and the rental order moves through the lifecycle (draft → confirmed → delivered → active → returned → completed) as payments and check-ins clear.
- Do you handle digital waivers and weather-day cancellations?
- Yes. Configurable waiver templates are signed digitally before delivery and stored against the rental order. For inflatables, you can configure wind-speed alert thresholds that flag weather-risky rentals so your team can reach out about reschedules before delivery.
- Is there a contract or minimum?
- No contract, no rental volume minimum, no exit fee. You can export your inventory, customer records, and rental history at any time via CSV from the dashboard — it’s your data, not ours.
- How long does setup take?
- Most owners go live the same day they sign up. Add your equipment, set your delivery zones, connect Stripe, and your storefront is online. Importing a substantial existing inventory from a spreadsheet adds a few hours; we have CSV templates that handle serialised items, bulk inventory, and packages.
Open your storefront the same day.
Add your equipment with photos and pricing, draw your delivery zones, configure your waiver template, connect Stripe. If you book a rental on day one, you didn’t pay us a cent to do it.
The math
On a $2,400 weekend booking, the platform fee is $120. You receive $2,280direct to your bank (less Stripe’s normal card fees, which we don’t upcharge). Your monthly software cost on Gear stays the same whether you book one rental or one hundred: $0.
